Generic vs Exceptional Decision Making

Lussier & Achua (2004) insisted that leadership was a procedure that not only influenced employees, but leaders as well, to accomplish the goals of the organization through change. Lussier in his book he explained about various types of leadership styles such as Transformational, Transactional, laissez-faire and charismatic. Lussier clearly explains the differences between all the leadership styles. Depending on the situation a leader has to act in different styles to complete the tasks.Drucker in his book states that “Leadership is the lifting of a man’s vision to higher sights, the raising of a man’s performance to a higher standard, the building of a man’s personality beyond its normal limitations.” He also explains about the five step decision process for decision making. Similarities: The decision making elements in both the Lussier/Achua’s and the Drucker’s are closely related. Drucker in his books describes that an effective leader is the person who understands the problem and takes an effective decision to solve the problem.First case is the regular one so it will be easy to take decisions when compared to the second case.In the second case leader has to take a decision effectively and immediately instead of looking for rules and regulations. As described above a leader has to take effective and immediate decision in situations like Katrina. Conclusion: For any organization to succeed it requires both the transformational and the decision making leader. These are the people who will take necessary decisions effectively and works on it to solve the problem.
